If signage on streets, roads, cities and parks works, we should hardly notice it. Achieving frictionless movement through urban spaces, however, is more complex than we realise, requiring an understanding of the neuroscience of navigation, topography, transport, and accessibility.
Applied is a spatial experience design practice that specialises in creating tools that help people move around cities. Seeking to share its expertise with a broader audience, and start more conversations within the sector, Applied approached Disegno Works to create a three-part podcast series: Re-routing the City.
Working with the Applied team, Disegno Works proposed topics for each episode spanning neuroscience and wayfinding, the changing rules of the road, and how cities can become more inclusive for people with disabilities.
Each episode was hosted by Disegno’s editorial team and features guests in a format that allowed for a conversational yet focused format. The podcast highlights Applied’s spatial experience design projects, whilst asking how we could re-route our cities to become safer, more legible and enjoyable for everyone.
The podcast was produced, edited and moderated by Disegno Works, with panels curated by Applied. In addition, Disegno Works wrote all copy for the series that could then be shared on podcasting platforms and social media. The podcast was published on Disegno Podcasts and shared with Disegno’s audience via social media channels.
